We love family dysfunction, but this one has truly sparked some debate. People in the comments section were split as to whether or not the Redditor crossed a line in how she spoke to her niece and brother-in-law or whether or not she was telling the cold hard truth.
This thread was posted to Reddit’s r/AmITheA**hole subreddit by u/DryEfficiency6519, who prefaced her story by sharing that she was raised by her immigrant parents to be as successful as possible. She doesn’t fully acknowledge that this has led to an extremely narrow-minded view of success, one that pretty much equates money with happiness. Which is why she clearly has a problem with her brother-in-law, a chef who makes about 10x less a year than his wife. Discussing money at the dinner table, especially when there’s already family tension and ideological divisions, can easily devolve into madness, which is exactly what happened here.
