Are you struggling to get your cat to eat, or to come out of its hiding places? Does it seem anxious and stressed, perhaps by new surroundings or a change in your home life? Your cat could be showing signs of anxiety, and we found a potential solution for you. A study written in the Applied Animal Behaviour Science Journal stated that cats do respond to music specifically composed for cats. 47 cats listened to music specifically composed for them (meaning that the tempo was closer to tempos in feline communication and using sounds in the feline frequency range) as well as two “human” songs.
The results of the study showed that the cats, when listening to the specifically composed songs, showed “significant preference for and interest”. They responded by purring, rubbing up against the speakers, and more relaxed body language. Looks like love to us! On the other hand, few of the cats responded to the “human” music. So next time your cat is looking a little under the weather, go to youtube and type in cat music – your kitty will thank you!
